Q & A:

What is the program?  A current member of the Dirt Floor Arena (DFA/Great Lakes Riders), can come to the arena during a specified time, for a specified topic to exercise/train your horse.

How much does it cost?  Effective June 1, 2013 open rides will be at a minimal cost to be determined.

How are the days/times figured out?  An Open Ride Scheduler sets the time and topic, verifying with the PR & Marketing Manager that the DFA day/time is available. An open ride will be scheduled in 2  hour increments.

How do I find out when the open rides are?  Check the DFA calendar of events to see when the open rides are.  This will tell you who is having the open ride, their phone number, the topic and the date/time.

How do I get my topic scheduled for an open ride?  Two choices:  Ask a current open ride scheduler to add your topic and be there or you can become an open ride scheduler yourself.  Inquire with a Board Member on this.

Can I have my trainer come with me and coach me while at an Open Ride event?  Sorry, but no, if you would like your trainer to coach you, you would need to rent the arena for your time period you wanted.

How many Open Ride Schedulers are there?  The DFA Board can appoint as many schedulers as needed.  The more schedulers, the more open rides that can happen.

If I'm a scheduler, can I still ride my horse?  Yes!  As a scheduler, you are in charge of opening the arena, making sure all people that show up are members, check coggins, clean up after everyone and shut the building down at the end of the open ride.

What types of topics are typical at an open ride?  Any topic can be chosen, but some of the more popular topics include: Gaming, Pleasure and Desensitizing.

Why pick a topic?  A "topic" is chosen so that the majority of the people/horses are working on the same thing at the same time.  We all know that it is no fun being in the arena when someone is trying to practice "gaming" and another "pleasure"... no fun for either party!
